Peregrinus Expeditions wants to show you all the different species of birds in Turrialba, Talamanca Cordillera and Costa Rica.
Peregrinus Expeditions provides people with a sustainable and ethical close to nature experience. We specialize in birds but have a deep knowledge of all of Costa Rica’s environments. With over 12 years of industry experience we know we can exceed your expectations about what a close to nature Costa Rican experience can be.
Why Turrialba and Talamanca Mountain Range?
The area contains more than 60% of Costa Rica’s bird species!
This is due to the area’s diverse altitudinal habits. Each habitat introduces new species and creates great variety for bird watchers. A side benefit is the area is overflowing with spectacular scenery.
From Turrialba to the district of Jimenez, there are about 602 bird species that can be seen. We have strong relationships with some of the best lodges in the area, where you can see some amazing species. Bay-headed Tanager, Speckled Tanager, Emerald Tanager, and the astonishing Blue and Gold Tanager are specialties in Tapanti.
Mixed flocks containing Funarids, Flycatchers, Antbirds, Buccos and Euphonias fill the forests. It is also one of the best places to see the elusive Snowcap hummingbird! At one of our favourite lodges, El Copal, birders have a chance to see rare species like the light blue Lovely Cotinga, Yellow-eared Toucanet, Sharpbill, and several Antpittas. The reserve is just one of the many amazing places to visit for a birdwatching trip in Costa Rica in this specific region.”
